Summer Intern

It started with a cold DM on LinkedIn.

And that DM started unremarkably:
It was a pre-law college student seeking experience in the legal world who wanted to know if I was aware of any internship openings or had any ideas, advice, etc.

Standard fare.

But then came the cool part:
. . . 𝘐𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, . . . 𝘪𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺. . . . 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦, 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 . . .

My curiosity piqued!

Long story short? I have my very first summer intern!

She started 2 weeks ago and, among other things, will be helping me sort through my content to assess if/how to adapt for a book. {—Shhh . . . I didn’t say that aloud.}

Her perspective has been eye opening so far—like free gold.

And I will teach her everything I know.

Takeaways:

1️⃣ Don’t stop seeking out opportunities just b/c you’ve exhausted the publicized ones. Hidden jobs are everywhere. They even sometimes get created from scratch.

2️⃣ Don’t feel like you’re too young or inexperienced to add value or be part of the conversation. We need your unique perspective.

3️⃣ Any college student who’s even remotely contemplating law school should be on LinkedIn networking. NOW.

I think that we all might just find some free gold in the deal, too.

Fondly,
💌 Amanda
