Dear Rising 1L, Hello & major kudos on getting into law school; it was a tough cycle. Stay tuned here for new, original content designed to help you get ready for law school.

For today, I thought we’d start with some podcasts recommendations.

Here are 5 that I think you’ll like:

1️⃣ How I Lawyer. Jonah Perlin

This one is hosted by a buddy of mine, Jonah Perlin, a lawyer turned Georgetown law professor. Jonah interviews lawyers about how they spend their time and what it is like to do what they do.

Check the index of interviews for a great way to learn about the different kinds of law and practices that are available, and then listen to the episodes that pique your curiosity. You can learn so much about the legal industry this way.

2️⃣ Lawyers in the Making. Nate Crespo

This one was started by my friend Nate Crespo when he was still a pre-L college student, and since then the show has become the one talked about most on LinkedIn. Nate interviews lawyers and others in the legal field about law school and how they got to where they are today. You can get to know a lot of lawyers and law students well by listening, and make sure to check out my two episodes.

3️⃣ The Law School Toolbox.

This podcast is well-rounded, talking about everything from law-school exams to what you should wear on your first day of school. I’d start here, as you’ll find material relevant to the summer before law school.

4️⃣ The Spivey Podcast. Mike Spivey

This podcast is by Mike Spivey, founder of the premier law-school admissions firm, Spivey Consulting. In my episode, I am interviewed about my book for 1Ls, and we discuss how students can prepare for legal writing before law school even starts: https://lnkd.in/eb-WtJHA

5️⃣ The Joyful Practice for Women Lawyers. Paula Price

This one may seem like a niche choice, but it's an excellent and informative show. I feature it here to mention my two episodes on legal writing. Students will learn SO many secrets by listening. Both are available here: https://lnkd.in/eWJ8Mp8t.

There are obviously infinite other podcasts, so please do your own research for shows that suit your style, but I hope these 5 can get you started.

That’s it for today.

❗️PLEASE write me back to say hi. The more questions and comments I receive, the more able I’ll be to write helpful letters for you.

(I also just really like to meet new people and chat! 🙂)

Cheers—
