We Have a Cover!
I’m finally becoming less anxious and more excited as the self-publishing process proceeds, so I want to start telling you all about ‘Dear 1L.’
At a high level, the book is a conversation between a first-year law student (1L) and a mentor who writes to them throughout their year.
Among other things, the book provides in-depth coverage of each item a 1L must write, from memos and briefs, to doctrinal-exam essays, and legal resumes.
The advice I share reflects what I know based on my life experiences as a lifelong learner of legal writing, as well as my own personal, career experiences.
In my career, I have been:
a paralegal,
a law student,
a BigLaw litigator,
an in-house counsel,
a mother of a law student,
a law-school career consultant,
a wife of a managing-firm partner,
a mentor and tutor for law students, and
a legal-writing coach for lawyers and law students.
Throughout that span, I worked at four different BigLaw firms in four different major cities of four different states, and I worked with and was trained by some of the best litigators and legal writers around.
What I’ve found is that new law students are not ready for 1L legal writing, and new JDs are not ready for real-life litigation writing.
My book is an effort to change that.
I hope you will check it out!
Fondly,
💌 Amanda
