Rising 1L, Hello and Welcome!

I’ve been so excited for your arrival and will have loads to say in the weeks to come, but for today, PLEASE get active on LinkedIn and start networking.

❓ “But Amanda, I just got into law school and am on top of the world; why on earth would I need to worry about networking now?”

Yeah, I hear that a lot. But here’s the thing:

👉 The best time to network is when you don’t need a network.

Today, you need nothing.
—You’re not looking for a job.
—You don’t need an introduction to some contact.
—You’re not seeking any help or favor.

THIS is the ideal time to network.

You’re an enthusiastic, future law student who’s eager to learn.
That is a superpower.

You won’t have this status for long.
Don’t let it go to waste.

👉 One year from now, you will be SO grateful that you started early.

Why not start today?

Fondly,

💌 Amanda

P.S.  This is what I’d do to start on LinkedIn:

▪️ Follow Miller Leonard and Lisa Blasser. They are both fantastic lawyers and people, and they post incredibly helpful content for law students almost every day.

▪️ Follow Amanda Freeman, Trevin Crider, and Lindsey Avalos. They are all current law students who post on LinkedIn. There are others, but I’d start there.

▪️ Start reading posts by folks in the legal world, and start studying the comments below them.

For sure, better still is to start adding your own comments to posts, and I’ve got tips on what to say if you’re unsure.

But if commenting seems like too much right away (or too much right now), please at least start by reading the comment strings to get a sense of the tone and flow.

P.P.S. I will have more networking thoughts for you, along with some other special gifts in the making. Sign up for updates by getting my newsletter at —> Dear1L dot com.

P.P.P.S. I’m looking forward to meeting you! Please don’t be shy. My LinkedIn DMs are always open. 🌈☀️
