Lawyers seek to “leverage” LinkedIn but make 3 big mistakes.
Lawyers seek to “leverage” LinkedIn but make 3 big mistakes.
1️⃣ MISTAKE 1:
You post with a FIREWALL. 👺
You post an article you’ve written,
but you give us no info about it.
And the full article’s behind a firewall. ❌
So we can’t read it, so we don’t like it or comment on it, and we definitely don’t save it. We just scroll on.
So your post will get no engagement.
Your post will —> 𝘿𝙄𝙀.
HOW TO FIX:
—Share your best takeaways from the article in the body of the post.
—Explain to us why writing it was important or hard for you, or why we should care.
2️⃣ MISTAKE 2:
You post and GHOST. 👻
You do a decent post, so you get some likes and comments.
But you don’t respond promptly (if ever) to them.
In fact, you don’t even know anyone engaged.
Because you posted and ghosted. ❌
And so did your post —> 𝘿𝙄𝙀
FIX: Respond substantively to every comment, and do so promptly.
EVEN BETTER: Study who engaged with your post and follow up to thank them by DM as soon as possible.
👉 The best way to get good engagement is to start back-and-forth exchanges in the comments.
Don’t skip the step of responding to or at least acknowledging your comments—ever.
3️⃣ MISTAKE 3:
You post to TOOT, TOOT, TOOT! 🚂🚂🚂
You post about an award, promotion, victory, or other win—EVERY time.
So we tire of you tooting your own horn.
You’ve become tone deaf.
We move on.
Your posts will —> 𝘿𝙄𝙀
FIXES:
—Always try to create VALUE for others.
—Don’t be a one-trick pony.
—Don’t be a big braggart!!!

P.S. Perhaps you should nix the “leverage” concept altogether, because while the word has a few meanings, its connotation is “getting something for less than you invested.”
And that approach DEFINITELY does not work on LinkedIn.

“Leverage”? Sure.
But you can’t do it without investing yourself, creating value for others, and being a good community member first.
