I just got the best surprise!
And it’s from someone I’d never even heard of before (Brittany S. Stevens, an author of a series on law school success).
She gave 📕 Dear 1L 📕 this 5-star review on Amazon!
My favorite parts:
👉 “This is not a book you read once and shelve. It’s a trusted supplement students can return to throughout 1L and beyond.”
👉 “It’s the kind of resource that can genuinely change a student’s trajectory in their first year.”
This is my sincere and exuberant thank-you, Brittany! 🙏🏻

I am hoping all pre-law students and especially incoming 1Ls see this and get the book now so they can start out with comfort in their corner before the summer season of self-doubt starts.
Please help spread the word! ♻️ I’m trying to make sure incoming law students know about the book.

Here is the full review if you can’t see the writing in the photo:
I first discovered Dear 1L via LinkedIn. As a pre-law professor and former practicing attorney who regularly mentors pre-law and law students, I am constantly searching for resources that are both practical and encouraging. Dear 1L is exactly that.
Legal writing is one of the steepest learning curves in law school.
The doctrine is challenging enough; learning how to communicate like a lawyer is an entirely different skill set.
What I appreciate most about this book is that it recognizes a simple truth: legal writing is hard, but learning about it shouldn’t be.
Amanda breaks down complex concepts- from avoiding dicta traps to mastering IRAC, memos, briefs, and even resumes- in a way that is tactical, accessible, and surprisingly engaging.
Her practical tips for memos, briefs, and fall + spring writing tips are especially valuable, and I genuinely wish I had this book when I was a 1L.
It feels like having a seasoned mentor walking you through the process- reassuring you about cold calls, normalizing the overwhelm, and helping you focus on what truly matters.
This is not a book you read once and shelve. It’s a trusted supplement students can return to throughout 1L and beyond.
If you are an incoming or current law student or someone who mentors law students, I highly recommend adding Dear 1L to your collection.
It’s the kind of resource that can genuinely change a student’s trajectory in their first year
