Dear 1L, I know you are struggling right now.

So while I have networking tips for you below, I am mostly writing to tell you I am thinking about you.

I don’t think this fall-2025-recruiting gambit is either good or fair, and I really wish you didn’t have to be its guinea pig.

But adjust, we must.

To start:

🔹 You need to identify your top city or cities, your top 5–10 firms, and your preferred practice group (litigation, transactional, or niche) (if you know).

—The narrower you can make all that, the easier and more streamlined your networking can be.

🔹 I also highly advise you to create a “Networking Tracker” or some system to log firm events, contacts, DMs, LinkedIn comments, and every follow-up.

—You’ll need a system for keeping up in the rush.

🔹 Finally, please treat all relationships you forge not as a single transaction to get something you need, but as the start of the lifelong networking emphasis you need to make part of your daily life.

Visibility, persistence, and curiosity are three powers that are within your control to develop and showcase.
