Dear Legal Writer: Try Revisiting Your Outline

✏️ Dear 1L Writer, When you’re working on a legal writing project for a very long time, you can start going ‘round and ‘round in your own head.

Rewriting the same sentences over and over again.

If that happens to you, try this:

🔸 Revisit your outline.

—If you didn’t make an outline at the start, definitely make one now.

—By looking at your outline, you come to see how the various parts of your writing fit together, and it can give you the right perspective to get you back on track.

Other ways to shake yourself back on track:

🔸 Take a walk.
🔸 Get a massage.
🔸 Blast music and dance.
🔸 Do anything other than write.

Your brain needs to rest.

While you’re resting, do not feel guilty, either. Your subconscious will still be working—often making those connections that are eluding you now.

I hope that one of the above approaches works. I’m thinking of you always.

📬 How do you get yourself back on track when you’re lost in the weeds of a big legal writing project?

Fondly,

💌 Amanda
