Dear 1L – Summer Spotlight
🔹 Dear 1L – Summer Spotlight 🔹
This week, I introduce rising 2L, Ali Slader.
Ali shares that she grew up on Cherokee reservation lands, amid the most meager of means.
Hers was a violent home of unspeakable abuse, in which Ali was “sister” to six brothers and the only “daughter” of an 8th-grade-educated father.
It is a world I am woefully ill-equipped to imagine, much less to depict suitably here.
I will say, in the end, Ali escaped.
At the ripe old age of 15.

In the years that followed:
🔹 Ali worked for ten years in corporate HR and completed her college degree. She accomplished the latter during the pandemic, all while working full-time and serving as sole-provider for her two adorable, little girls.
🔹 Ali is now a happily married, rising 2L at the Antonin Scalia Law School in Arlington, VA.
🔹 Ali also co-founded and runs the first, all-female-owned LSAT prep company, elleSAT.
Armed with her law degree (expected May 2024), Ali will continue to run her businesses and to pursue additional advocacy for Native American and domestic-violence causes. Her mission is to make an impact in the lives of those in need and to make the world a little better each day as a result.

In a recent post (link in comments), Ali shares:
▫️ She tells her girls, “they are capable of whatever they set their mind to.”
▫️ Her youngest daughter (now three) recently told Ali that she “‘inspires her.’ She said she wants to go to law school, and has her eyes set on Harvard law.” (They had watched Legally Blonde at finals time.)
▫️ “It is okay to be terrified of pursuing your dreams, but don’t let the fear or the statistics hold you back. You can do it.”
Please join me in welcoming Ali to our LinkedIn legal community.
Happy Sunday.
Fondly,
Amanda
