Dear 1L, They say, “Those who get A’s end up teaching. Those who get B’s end up practicing, but they are taking orders from the C’s (who are out on the golf course).”

I’ve heard the expression articulated in a number of different ways over the years, and they all piss me off.

So here’s what I want you to remember instead:

👉 Only 𝟎.𝟎𝟏% of the U.S. population just took 1L fall.

 That means even if you’re in your class’s so-called “bottom half,” you’re still ahead of 99.99% of others!

That’s rarified air!

And you know what’s also true?

Whether you got A’s, B’s, C’s, or even some D’s, you’re gonna get a 🅹🅳 !

That’s the real prize.

Indeed, your journey is just beginning.

So please be proud of what you’ve accomplished;
support your classmates;
and keep your eyes on the prize.

I’ll be here to cheer you toward graduation,
grades & golf courses be damned.
