Dear 1L, I’ve seen a bunch of anonymous posts from 1Ls lately (on Reddit, FB groups, etc.) that have broken my heart.

They all say something to the effect of:

“I haven’t found a friend group.
Everyone seems to be in their established cliques already.
I feel isolated and alone.
Any tips?”

😢😢😢

I bet you can think of at least one student in your 1L class who might write such a post?

PLEASE: Give them a friendly smile and say hello today.

Better yet, introduce yourself and ask how they’re doing.

—“Why?” you ask.

Well, if it being “the right thing to do” isn’t enough, consider this:

▪️ What if that 1L who’s sitting alone in the corner of the cafeteria becomes your boss some day?

▪️ Or maybe the GC at a company you’d kill to get business from?

The thing is, you can’t know.

Every single student at your school is YOUR potential:
—colleague
—client
—boss
—referral source, for both future clients and future job opportunities

And right now, you’ve got a GOLDEN opportunity to make a good first impression.

PLEASE don’t waste it!

In fact, I’d say that if you introduce yourself today, you increase the chances of getting something valuable from the experience, even if it comes later down the line.

👉 So play it smart. Play the long game.

You may have lockers and daily homework, but this is NOT high school.

Cliques?

Those should never be a problem during 1L.

1L is hard enough!!!

Might you befriend a lonely 1L for me today?

💌 Amanda
