1L Fall Memos

Dear 1L, In the past 4 years, I’ve seen 100+ 1L fall memos.

Every year, the EXACT SAME mistakes trip folks up.

Here are the 8 biggest culprits.

Avoid them to stay ahead of the curve.

FINALLY: Please read and follow ALL your professor’s formatting rules.

The rules may seem arbitrary, but they are not optional.

Make sure your font size, margins, spacing, page length, and other style choices ALL match those that your professor has set.

📍 Do NOT try to get away with skirting the rules.

If your font is too small, or your margins too narrow, your professor WILL notice, and you WILL lose points.

Note that IRL, if you violate a judge’s rules, the court may refuse to accept your brief.

❤️❤️ I am thinking of all of you so much over these next several days of memo hell.

I am contemplating hosting an open session to teach some points that should help you and to answer any and all memo questions that are not tied to your specific assigned topic.

👉 Please let me know if you’d be interested and when would work best logistically by typing “DM” in a comment, and I will follow up with you separately.
