How to Find a Mentor
In another FB group, an anonymous 1L asked: “This may sound silly, but how do I go about finding a mentor?”
This was my response:
▪️ “It’s not a silly question. The best advice I’ve ever heard on the topic is this:
Stop looking for a mentor. Instead, become someone who attracts one.
—> Do interesting things that will get you noticed.
—> Let the mentor(s) be the one(s) to find you.
That said, try the ‘Legal Mentor Network (LMN).’ And if you’re not active on LinkedIn, start asap. Best of luck to you—”

▪️ I have since traced this “best advice” to a Justin Welsh newsletter of November 25, 2023.
👉 Check it out and consider subscribing. It’s my favorite read each week. (The focus of the newsletter is solopreneurship, but it seems to have much broader-reaching insights on success in everything in life.)
▪️ As for LMN, I’ve never been privy to how it works, but I believe you are guaranteed a mentor from there, and it seems like a no-brainer that you should sign up.
👉 I would check out their website and follow Brian Potts and Jonah Perlin on LinkedIn to learn more.

🗳️ How would you answer the same, find-a-mentor question?
