How I found my “voice” when I first started posting on LinkedIn
When I first started posting on LinkedIn, I struggled to find my “voice.”
Here are the 3 biggest things that helped me:
1️⃣ I kept a laser focus on a good answer to “WHY?”
We all have multiple answers to the “Why-do-we-post” question.
I did at the beginning, too.
But I found that if I stuck with “to help people” as my answer, that made it easier to get over the initial posting hurdle.
I told myself, “I should post if my post might help ONE person. All I have to do is touch one person.”
(I still come back to this self-talk on days I feel insecure about posting.)
2️⃣ I returned to a medium I knew: personal letters.
I’ve always been a letter writer, and I’ve been told how much my letters have meant to people over the years, so I thought maybe I wouldn’t suck at doing it publicly.
3️⃣ I chose to address my letters to ONE person.
I did so because I thought my letters would be more intimate that way. I wanted each individual 1L to feel like my words were meant just for them.
It also helped keep my focus on my answer to “Why?” —> My post simply had to potentially help ONE person.
That made my “job” feel less overwhelming.

And so, in keeping with the above, even though this post is arguably off-brand, I’m posting it in case any of the above that helped me might also help YOU.
All I need is for this to have the potential to help one person. 😓
Fondly,
💌 Amanda
P.S. I’m trying to encourage more law students and lawyers to start posting.
