900 Copies of My ‘Dear 1L’ Book Have Sold

I am thrilled to report exciting news: 900 copies of my ‘Dear 1L’ book have sold on Amazon! 🎉 🎊

First, here’s why the 900 number means so much to me:

—This is my first self-published and self-marketed book
—I’ve spent ZERO on advertising or outside marketing support
—No law professor has assigned the book to their class yet

That said, I’ve been working really hard behind the scenes.

I’m hoping these 900 Amazon sales (plus about 100 signed copies I’ve mailed) will be enough—

enough to start a word-of-mouth referral network among law and pre-law students.

But: I know I can’t count on that.

👉 In fact, interestingly, I found this fall that many current 1Ls with the book did NOT want to share it with other 1Ls—

—because of that dastardly curve.

While it’s unfortunate, it’s also very understandable.

But it does mean there’s an awful lot of work ahead.

—> An estimated 38,000 students will start law school next fall.

That’s in this country alone, and it doesn’t account for all the LLMs, attorneys, including ESL attorneys, or paralegals who would also benefit greatly from my book.

I am 100% dedicated to ensuring that no future law student:

—feels scared about starting law school;

—faces their first year without a nurturing mentor’s support; or

—endures the same traumatic 1L writing course that I endured.

So here’s my question:

What should I do next to further spread the word?

I am considering:

—having the book translated into Spanish and/or recording an audiobook

—creating a first-of-its-kind course to prepare incoming students for 1L legal writing (aiming for next summer)

—working towards 10,000 books sold to potentially secure a publisher for a 2nd edition (or a 2nd book)

I would be so grateful for any feedback on what you think I should do next. 🙏🏻
